Crystal Drawing

I love this project. It has a high success rate with students because they are allowed to press hard with the colored pencils and it is mostly geometric shapes. Students start by learning how to draw the diamond on colored paper. Then a sketchbook assignment on how to draw a crystal. Next, they draw three rough drafts of their own crystal. Last, they draw the final crystal on colored paper.

Warm-up: Draw a diamond on colored paper with a color scheme that has a light, medium, dark, and alternative color (ex. light blue, medium blue, dark blue, and magenta)

This is the same technique used for the crystal drawing

Crystals

Step 1: Students are given a practice sheet to learn how to draw a crystal. I also demonstrate how to get started

Step 2: Students are shown a variety of crystal shapes and are then asked to draw three different rough drafts with at least seven crystals and its base.

Step 3: Students are given colored paper and they draw several colors on the back to see which ones look best with that paper. Then they follow the same steps they did with the diamond

Final Crystal
