Layered Trees in Ink

Atmospheric Perspective

This is a nice, inexpensive project with cool effects. I used three pieces of transparency paper. On each paper I painted a tree with India Ink. It really needs to be this thicker, more opaque ink. Watercolor will not show the through the layers very well. Then I glued the pieces together with a glue stick and then glued on black paper. Black construction paper works fine.

This is a good lesson in developing skills in composition and contrast. It also gives me a chance to talk about atmospheric perspective (images in the foreground are darker than images in the background). Mountain ranges are the classic example for atmospheric perspective.

This project is inspired from Brooks Shane Salzwedals.
