For this assignment, students choose either an ice cream or burger to draw in the Surrealism style. Also on this page, is the sketchbook assignment and its demonstration videos. You will notice that it uses ellipses as the base for the drawings.

Burger Requirements:

Needs at least five layers and that includes the buns
A simple background
Shows gradations

Polar Escape by Caroline Nay

Ice Cream Requirements:

Needs at least three layers and that does not include the cone
An interesting background that goes with the theme of the ice cream. The background needs to be more detailed than the burger because it does not take up as much space. Therefore, it needs to more subject matter to balance the composition.
